Jake Jacobson is a self-taught woodcarver whose work possesses a recognizable personality with a mood of introspection. His work is described to be Scandinavian folk carving infused with spirituality. It draws from the mystery and mastery of the ancient druid and Viking folk carvers as well as the work of late 19th and early 20th Century Scandinavian "High Artist” carvers. In 2012 he created Tre Kronor Studio (3 Crowns). In 2020 his son, Karl joined the studio as a painter and graphic designer. At this point his work primarily consists of custom commission work and an annual appearance at the August Artist Pop-Up and the Autumn Leaf Festival... but retirement is coming!” Jake is also a noted author having published three books: Holy Talk: An Introduction to Scripture for the Occasionally Biblically Embarrassed; Rockin’ the Front Porch: Sharing the Faith in the New Normal and How I Met My Mother and Other Close Encounters, with a fourth major work underway and a fifth in the hopper. In his spare time he dabbles with painting in oil and acrylics.
My love for the art of woodworking began in High School. During my senior-high years I had three classes a day of Cabinetry and Woodworking. After graduating high school, I went into the Carpenter's Union. Even though I was in that Union I would always find time to make some things that I called 'Art Furniture' out of logs and slabs I would find as I walked in the woods. I also made cabinets, coffee tables, end tables, and other assorted wood art objects in my spare time. I worked 20 years with the Carpenter's Unions in Pittsburgh and Chicago, and then walked away from the Union work to start my own General Contractor's business which I worked at another 23 years and continued making my own 'Art Furniture' (what is now known as 'Live Edge' furniture). I was ahead of that field by 30 years. I also did 'Restoration Carpentry' and restored a building from 1900 and ran a bed and breakfast there for 12 years. I am now retired and still enjoy building one of a kind 'Live Edge' furniture etc... a lot of fun for a retired wood worker.
